After some thorough investigation, it’s been determined that the current impact to VCS customers is not as severe as previously thought. The teams plan to continue the discussion next week on ways to mitigate potential problems during high season.

At this point, the immediate incident is contained, but there will be a postmortem, follow ups and preventative actions as the result of this incident.

Ongoing discussion between CT Product Catalog teams and VCS: clarifying and aligning metrics, impact calculations and suggestions to VCS for handling the various responses from IDP to prevent customer-facing impact.

CTIM is creating this channel to bring together communication around an earlier incident wherein timeouts from the Prepress Estimate Service, which have been happening intermittently since August 26th, are causing ‘Out of Stock’ error messages to be visible to our customers. VCS has reported this is a bug as there are no actual inventory issues. VCS is also reporting that while the incident was originally thought to be resolved, the underlying timeout issue persists, posing an ongoing and increasing risk to customer orders.
